Convection

Convection is determined using a convection coefficient (heat transfer coefficient) h.

     Q = hA(Tw - Too), where

A = the heat transfer area
Tw = work temperature
Too = fluid temperature

Resistance due to convection is given by:      R = 1/(hA)

For a straight fin:

     fin, where

h = heat ransfer coefficient
p = exposed perimeter of fin
k = thermal conductivity
Ac = cross-sectional area of fin
Tb = temperature at base of fin
Too = fluid temperature
m = m
Lc = L + Ac/p      L is length of fin.
